Okay so I'm a little dissapointed. Okay I'm more than disapointed. I haven't seen this film. I won't see this film. I personally think 'The Hurt Locker' deserved best Picture at the Oscars and I haven't seen that film either. So why hasn't there been a post mortem for this crappy 'ooooooooo but it loooooks ssoooooo prety movie yet'?!?!?!??!?!
Anybody???....???...??? You are all Quantum students right?...?...???...
So okay I'll start the ball rolling what do you all thinck of this shiny film - And if any of you even think about 3-D given the fact that German silent film from the 1920's had that **** happening, I'll visit Quantum house with my cleaver...The one I call 'Bessy' _________________ 'Romance aside... I thought it was pretty good. I mean it was terribly predictable, basically Dances With Wolves but in space, but it was still a fun watch that was polished to hell and back.

Sorry, But i'm going to say it. Avatar is one of only two films i've seen in 3D that hasn't annoyed me with its inconsistency or given me a headache (The other being the recent Alice in Wonderland release). Correct me if I'm wrong, but James Cameron developed a special type of stereoscopic filming for Avatar which lends it much greater consistency, applying depth to the film throughout and making you momentarily forget that you're watching a 3D movie, rather than using gimmicky **** and a limited number of levels.
Now believe me when I say this, I have always HATED 3D movies and wished that they would go shrivel up and die in a corner somewhere. But after seeing Avatar well, I would be content if every movie was done with the same technique. The technological feat combined with the stunning vision of Pandora and the sheer amount of polish put into the thing opened my eyes to what can be done with 3D in terms of immersion and entertainment.
Even if it is annoying to wear the 3D glasses over the top of my normal ones _________________

Sure, they had it back in '20s but the technology was primitive and finicky. They had the polarisation techniques we use now in the '30s - and it was widely used in the '50s - but again the systems were finicky. It's only now with modern factories (for the decent quality glasses) and with modern technology (computer controlled digital projectors) that we can get it right.
Even without the 3D it is a very pretty film though. I maintain that it got all the Oscars it deserves - the ones for being a pretty movie. The plot was easily digestible and just as easily passed. The writing was average at best. I did enjoy the hooks of the human weapons design (How does such a big ship stay aloft while going so slowly?) and the quirk of the planet's ecology (Giant networked planet? Plug me in.). I will be disappointed if the inevitable sequel doesn't even touch on the only logical progression for the story (ORBITAL BOMBARDMENT).
Essentially, what Avatar boils down to is: Over-blown Budget + Pedigree Director + Well-used Gimmick + Massive Advertising + Zeitgeist = Biggest Earning Movie Of All Time. I'll probably go see the sequel but if he hasn't picked up the plot or the writing I'll be disappointed. _________________ "im pretty sure you're licensed to just pull out random weaponry at random points in a conversation" |

Its literally pocahontas... Just that its from the perspeective of the guy instead f the girl and of course there are a few things so cliche like "chicks dig the guy with the big red ferrari dragon."
But the real awesoem is not the story but how well they got everything to interact with each other in 3d _________________

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who realised this
That and "unobtanium" are the two moments where I wanted to punch hollywood. _________________

Even so I actually wouldve liked to see this movie win the Oscar instead of Hurt Locker.
That movie was good but I am just tired of watching war movies from US... _________________
